Steps to Take at an Inflection Point

You stand at a crossroad. You can take the easy way out and settle for a future that falls short. It’s easier, quicker and less expensive. But it leaves you feeling empty. You know you could do more, but fear keeps you stuck.

I’m guessing there is an inflection point for you right now. You want:

  • To start your own business.
  • Go back to school or earn a certification.
  • Step up to leadership in an organization you care about deeply.
  • Open a sandwich shop.
  • Join a rock and roll band.
  • Fill in the blank__________________.

There is a real price to pay for stepping up to your dreams. That’s why you don’t take action. But, your soul keeps nagging at you. You are caught in a rip tide and need a way forward. Here are the steps you can take:

  • Find a Thought Partner: This is a friend, career coach , or therapist who listens to you and reflects the stories you are telling yourself. They help you see a new perspective and tap into your wisdom. They validate your vision and give you the support you need.
  • Take a Comprehensive Career Assessment: Clarify your strengths and values. Your confidence is boosted as you read about your temperament and your interests. The assessment is a mojo-boosting source of validation.
  • Plot Your Escape: Your starting point will shape your strategy. Determine what you need to do first and take that step.
  • Leverage Your Assets:  If you want to upgrade your life, you need to acknowledge your resources and gifts. From this vantage point, you can creatively determine how you will get where you want to go.

I was inspired to share these ideas because it seems everyone I speak to (clients, family, and friends) is at significant inflection points. Whatever is stirring your soul, I encourage you to honor your aspirations. The world needs what you have to offer.
