Inventive Innovators

Let’s dig into the Innovator preference which is dominant in 12% of the global population. If you have an Innovator preference, you are a thirsty learner. As far back as you can remember you had a wide range of interests and a deep desire to understand why things work the way they do.

School might have been a mixed bag for you. It was a place where you could uncover information and explore. Yet far too often you were bored. Or worse, you came up with alternative answers to problems only to be shut down by teachers who lacked confidence and creativity.

You are independent and original. The road less traveled is your favorite pathway. You explore science, philosophy, history, and art. You have a gift for seeing how complex systems work together, creating repeated patterns in life and nature. You are visionary, curious, and driven. Conversely, if the problem or project has become routine, you quickly lose interest.

Here are some other common traits or capabilities of a true Innovator. You are:

  • Logical, able to remain objective.
  • Able to engage in debate, enjoying intellectual sparring with a worthy opponent.
  • Drawn to work with highly competent co-workers.
  • Enjoy mentoring up-and-coming professionals with great potential.
  • Unfazed in the face of highly complex, challenging problems.
  • Most motivated when starting a new project with many unknowns ahead.
  • Irritated by excessive expressions of emotion.

Your natural ability to set your emotions aside and focus on the problem makes you a great attorney, surgeon, or scientist. You are constantly inventing new solutions to everyday problems. Like Steve Jobs, you know what could make the world better, before we even know we need it.

If you relate to what has been said here, you are the master of asking “Why?” You push the boundaries and yearn for extraordinary solutions. But sometimes your questions generate a defensive reaction. Developing sensitivity and patience with others who do not work at your speed is a key learning opportunity for you.

Many of the most brilliant inventions ever conceived and implemented were generated by Innovators. You challenge us and make us better.
