Elevated Career Coaching

I started my career coaching private practice in 1989—over 30 years ago. My ability to serve my clients was limited in several ways. My clients needed to drive to our meetings, find parking, and dress appropriately. Scheduling sessions was done via phone and voice mail (no email or scheduling software). This created a level of overhead for me as a business owner and some inconvenience for my customers.
Fast forward to 2023 and the game has evolved. Here are the elevated elements I currently enjoy in my private practice:
Existential Crisis
The pandemic has changed the way most people experience their careers. More than ever before, my prospective clients are unwilling to work for a paycheck. They want to live up to their potential in a meaningful occupation.
Virtual Career Coaching
In the past, career coaching was very localized. Clients needed to live nearby but no more. Now I see clients from all over the world—how cool is that? I walk down the hallway to go to work avoiding dry cleaning bills, freeways, and the associated stress.
Many clients find me by visiting my LinkedIn profile or they might hear about me and then visit LinkedIn to explore my qualifications. This offers amazing exposure.
Google Business Listing
As part of my Google suite of services, I have created an online business profile with a description of my services, photos, and contact information. It is 100% free.
Scheduling Software
I love this time saver and it makes it easier for clients to decide to book some time with me. Both convenience and time efficiency are delivered virtually.
The Coaching Industry
Maybe the biggest positive change has been the explosion of coaching. The creation of coaching standards and credentials.
I could go on, but I think I’ve shared some of the biggest changes I am currently enjoying. It still takes work to run a successful career coaching business, but, no doubt, it has gotten easier.
